About the Role
Location: Pueblo, CO (onsite)
Reports To: PTD Engineering Manager
Type: Contract to hire
Travel: Up to 10%
Overview
Mid level engineer (3 to 5 years) who designs, integrates, commissions, and sustains mechatronic systems across mechanical, electrical, and software domains for solid rocket motor and energetic materials production.
What You Will Do
Design, build, and commission robotic handling, custom end effectors, motion control, and sensor integration
Troubleshoot and improve existing automated systems to increase uptime and throughput
Integrate robots, actuators, sensors, and PLCs with software control layers and data pipelines
Run FAT/SAT and system validation testing
Maintain schematics, test records, validation reports, and change logs
Lead root cause analysis on system failures and process deviations
Must Haves
BS in Mechatronics, ME, EE or related with 3+ years in mechatronics or automation (MS with 1+, or 7+ years hands on without a degree)
Hands on design, build, and commissioning of mechatronic systems
Integration across PLCs, sensors, actuators, and software
Python, C#, C++, or similar scripting
Experience in a regulated industry such as aerospace, defense, or chemical
Strong documentation habits
Nice to Haves
Energetics, explosives, or other hazardous manufacturing
ML or AI applications in manufacturing
Requirements
Onsite role. Remote is not an option.
US Person required for ITAR (US Citizen or Green Card holder)
Must be 21 or older and eligible for state and federal explosives licenses
Drug free workplace and background investigation
Able to lift 50 lbs and work on a manufacturing floor in PPE

Posted FTE base: $90K to $115K
Strong pools include robotics integrators and automotive or EV production lines.
Screen for commissioning and FAT/SAT work the candidate personally did.
