Principal Automation Software Engineer
Location: Penrose, CO (onsite)
Reports To: PTD Engineering Manager
Type: Contract to hire
Travel: Up to 20%
Overview
Senior software authority for lab automation, robotics integration, and high throughput data pipelines. Owns software architecture and integration strategy for robotic and mechatronic automation platforms from design through multi site deployment.
What You Will Do
Lead software architecture, data flow, and integration for robotic automation platforms through validation and deployment
Build automation pipelines for high throughput testing using sensors, robots, and custom visualization tools
Own software baselines, version control, and configuration management, and lead design reviews
Design database architecture, input validation, real time visualization, and multi site deployment packaging
Support program reviews, proposals, and cost estimates
Mentor associate and mid level software engineers
Must Haves
BS in Aerospace, CS, Software, Systems or related with 7+ years in automation software or control systems (MS with 5+, or 11+ years hands on without a degree)
Full lifecycle ownership of automation or instrumentation software through site acceptance
C#, Python, C/C++, and SQL
Robot integration with ABB, Epson, Fanuc, Universal Robots, or cobots
Software deployments across multiple sites
Active DoD Secret clearance or able to obtain one
Nice to Haves
Energetics or solid rocket motor manufacturing
Lab automation, high throughput testing, or analytical data pipelines in defense
Lean or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt
Requirements
Onsite role. Remote is not an option.
US Person required for ITAR (US Citizen or Green Card holder)
Must be 21 or older and eligible for state and federal explosives licenses
Drug free workplace and background investigation
Able to lift 50 lbs and work on a manufacturing floor in PPE

This is a software engineer, not a PLC engineer. Lab automation backgrounds from pharma and biotech transfer well.
