About the Role
Title: Test Engineering Lead
Headcount: 2 (level 3 and level 4)
Location: Local; Folsom CA
Contract: Twelve-month contract, with contract-to-hire
Employment type: Contract
Tech / domain environment:
- SWIL and HWIL testing with test software and hardware.
- Work is oriented toward a classified environment and national-defense applications.
Job duties:
- Lead preparation, execution and post-test analysis for rocket motor integration and test activities.
- Develop, maintain and standardize test plans, procedures and data collection strategies.
- Oversee SWIL and HWIL test software and hardware development.
- Mentor less experienced engineers and team members.
- Communicate test results, status and issues to management, customers and cross-functional teams.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and engineering standards during test activities.
- Drive continuous improvement in test processes, tools and methodologies.
- Lead TRRs and other technical reviews.
- Troubleshoot complex issues and resolve test anomalies.
- Apply controls and systems engineering principles to test systems and instrumentation.
- Operate rocket-system tests on the ground, including controls operation and test execution.
Must haves:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related STEM field from an accredited college/university.
- Seven (7) to Ten (10) years of hands-on test engineering experience in propulsion systems, aerospace or related industries, including rocket motor integration and testing.
- Extensive experience integrating and testing complex hardware and software systems.
- Advanced programming proficiency in C/C++, MATLAB, Python and Simulink for developing, debugging and optimizing test software.
- Strong working knowledge and practical experience with RS-422, RS-485 and CAN serial communication protocols.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience with MIL-STD and aerospace qualification/acceptance test practices.
- Strong background in DAQ systems, instrumentation and controls engineering principles applied to test systems and integration.
- Intimate knowledge of instrumentation, calibration standards and methodologies.
- Actuator testing experience.
- Rocket motor industry experience.
- Experience with actuator testing.
- Solid rocket motor industry experience is preferred over general rocket experience.
