Title: Mechanical Engineer / Hardware Integration
Location: Austin, TX, Onsite
Contract: 12 month contract to hire;
Interview Process: Resumes reviewed collectively by designated recruiter, engineering manager, and hiring manager; virtual presentation or on-site visit in Austin presenting on a subsystem or part they owned, requiring clear and methodical communication, followed by a 45-minute presentation; 3-4 one-on-one interviews lasting 30 minutes each covering personal background, behavioral questions, and technical questions; Feedback SLA: Weekly

Role Overview
We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer to design, build, and test complex systems—including autonomous platforms and edge devices. You’ll work across assemblies, structures, linkages, and electromechanical components; design in CAD; build in the shop; and help solve hard problems with limited time and resources.
Responsibilities
Develop mechanical assemblies and systems for autonomous platforms and edge devices
Generate initial concepts, CAD designs, and engineering drawings
Design structures, linkages, and electromechanical components
Build and test rapid subsystem and full-system prototypes
Validate prototypes through experimentation and field testing
Evaluate mechanical designs for reliability in harsh marine environments
Source and assemble components with vendors and manufacturing partners
Support Government demonstrations and regular field tests
Must-Haves
Experience building complex systems from scratch, including autonomous platforms
Hardware development experience in marine, aerospace, robotics, or automotive
Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks and/or NX)
Experience designing mechanical assemblies, structures, linkages, or electromechanical components
Hands-on experience building and testing physical prototypes
Experience supporting subsystem or full-system validation
Comfort working with high uncertainty, limited resources, and compressed timelines
U.S. Person status (export-controlled work): U.S. citizen, green card holder, or other protected status under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)
Nice-to-Haves
Fabrication experience (machining, welding, hand tools)
Experience designing for harsh marine environments
Vendor / manufacturing partner coordination
Field testing or Government demonstration support
