About the Role

Title: Junior Engineer - Cryogenic Test

Headcount: 1

Location: On-site

Contract: Undetermined duration with possibility of continuation; Start: ASAP

Interview Process: 1st round interview; Feedback SLA: Weekly sync

Why Hiring:

- Workforce increase to address a team bottleneck at human resources across multiple R&D projects.

End Product:

- Quantum computing infrastructure, specifically superconducting control circuitry integrated next to qubit chips for control pulses, read-out, processing, and quantum state manipulation.

Tech/Domain Environment:

- MATLAB, Python

- Dry systems, cryostats, dilution refrigerators, and adiabatic demagnetization refrigerators (ADRs)

- Low-noise analog and digital circuits, electronic sockets

- Superconducting chips

Job Duties (6-10 bullets):

- Load superconducting chips into the cryogenic system and run test scripts manually

- Handle equipment carefully during manual R&D testing (up to 10 chips per day)

- Analyze test failure data and troubleshoot/debug non-working test runs

- Interact with circuit designers to explain testing results and anomalies

- Assist circuit designers in reproducing test issues via simulation

- Optimize the design and parameters of barely working R&D circuits

- Program test equipment to generate input signal timing diagrams from circuit designer specs

- Support exploratory debugging rather than push-button automated testing

Must Haves (hard gates; 6-12 bullets, all testable/quantified):

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering

- Proficiency in writing and executing test scripts using MATLAB or Python

- Experience with electronic socket testing and low-noise analog and digital circuits

- Familiarity with testing quantum devices or superconducting chips

- Strong analytical skills for debugging non-working R&D circuits and analyzing test data

Nice to Haves (5-10 bullets):

- Familiarity with cryogenic testing, dry systems, and cryo-coolers

- Experience operating and testing in dilution refrigerators

- Experience with adiabatic demagnetization refrigerators (ADRs)

- Prior hands-on lab experience testing superconducting circuits during academic education

- Experience from organizations downsizing hardware/superconducting test teams (e.g., Northrop Grumman)

Disqualifiers (3-6 bullets):

- Expectation of purely push-button, automated testing without exploratory debugging

- Lack of programming proficiency in MATLAB or Python

Security/Clearance:

- None specified
